Hello and welcome. My name is April and I am a professionally qualified and registered therapist for adults and couples. I offer a welcoming, confidential and non-judgemental space to talk and be heard. You will be valued and given the time to explore what you need and want. As we go through life, most of us experience various challenges, stresses and pains. We do not have to face these difficulties alone. It is normal and healthy to seek guidance.

About me and my practice

I work using a humanistic approach to counselling. My main therapeutic approach is Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a humanistic therapy and a form of social psychology that focusses on relationships, communication and healing.

I work with people (adults 18 years plus) looking for support with all kinds of challenges. I offer a safe, empathic and confidential space to talk, to deal with difficulties, change behaviours and allow you to understand yourself and your worries better.

My style is professional, empathic, pro-active and supportive. I do not just sit and listen. I see therapy as a collaborative effort. A space to be yourself. Everyone is unique and my aim is to work with your style and what you're comfortable with.
As we go through life, most of us experience various challenges, stresses and pains. We do not have to face these difficulties alone. It is normal and healthy to seek guidance.

Talking with a trained counsellor can help make sense of the problem and find ways of coping in order to move forward. Engaging in therapy is a powerful way to make sense of your difficulties, help alleviate the angst and build upon your existing strengths. The aim is to work on what you would like to change, to enhance your life and enable you to live it more fully.

Not everybody who comes to counselling has a specific problem. Sometimes people want to explore a general feeling that their lives are not quite right.

I am down to earth, friendly and supportive in my approach.

Experience

I have been working in the helping profession since 2011, specialising in working with people who have experienced trauma and wider mental health difficulties.

To maintain and develop my practice, I receive regular supervision. I also strive to keep abreast of the latest training to enhance my practice and offer a quality service.

I have an enhanced DBS certificate for adults and children.

I am a registered member of :

British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
United Kingdom Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA)
European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA)
Hampshire Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (HACP).

As a member of the above organisations, I adhere to their ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy and professional conduct and procedure.
